Alpha Phi to host Matt Wertz

The ladies of Alpha Phi and the Illini Union Board will host Matt Wertz, an Illinois alumnae, on November 8 at Foellinger Auditorium. According to Wertz’s biography, he first started writing songs during his freshman year on campus. Most of Wertz’s first fans were his dorm mates in Scott Hall, who gathered to listen to him play his songs in the dorms.

The fundraiser will help the Alpha Phis raise money for their fall philanthropy which raises money for kidney cancer research. The chapter supports this philanthropy event in order to honor one of their members who died in 1996. An added bonus to the show will be the opening act, brought to you by the Xtension Chords.

If you’re looking for something unconventional to do on Dad’s Weekend, or if your padre can’t make the trip to Champaign, then consider going to the Urbana Free Library at 2 p.m. to attend a program on women in warfare.

The talk, “Violence and Globalization: Women Seeking Freedom in the Warzone”, will be hosted by UI Professor Emeritus Evelyn Accad. Accad is well-known not only as a professor, but also as an author, musician and activist. Accad will speak and perform original songs that express how suppressed women in war zones feel.

Silly Latin

I've seen Matt in concert and it was a great show. Also, unless, I'm mistaken, Matt is a dude. And there's also only one of him. Which makes him an alumnus (masc. sing.). Unless of course he changed genders and would has multiplied, in which case alumnae (fem. plur.) is 100% appropriate.
