In Saturday's win over Iowa, Illini backup quarterback Eddie McGee made his debut at wide receiver. McGee finished with two receptions for 14 yards against the Hawkeyes. CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Backup Illinois quarterback Eddie McGee has agreed to enter an adult diversion program that will allow him to avoid criminal charges after his weekend arrest.

Champaign County State's Attorney Julia Rietz says a panel of volunteers will set the conditions.

On the eve of Eddie McGee's Thursday court date, Illinois head coach Ron Zook addressed the media for the first time since the quarterback was arrested on allegations of aggravated battery last weekend.

McGee took snaps for the second straight day since news of the arrest was made public.

Illinois quarterback Eddie McGee is scheduled to appear in court Thursday to face allegations of aggravated battery, stemming from an incident at last weekend's African-American Homecoming party.

McGee was arrested shortly after midnight on Sunday morning after he "allegedly grabbed a female and knocked her down" during a skirmish inside the event, according to Jeff Christensen, interim chief of police for the University police department.

The Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics has confirmed Illinois backup quarterback Eddie McGee was arrested on charges of aggravated battery last weekend. The arrest stemmed from an incident at Saturday night's African American Homecoming dance, when McGee "allegedly grabbed a female and knocked her down," according to Jeff Christensen, the interim Chief of Police for the University police department.

The Fighting Illini had plenty of problems on Saturday. Penalties gave the Michigan offense too many opportunities and Kyle Hudson's muffed punt return was simply brutal. But those things can't be changed now. It happened, let's move on and focus on Ball State.

If you asked anyone on campus at the beginning of the year if Illinois football would be 4-1 at this point, tied for first place in the Big Ten and favored - yes, favored, by three points - against the No. 5 team in the country, I doubt there would be too many believers.

When Arrelious Benn broke free from four tackles and powered his way into the end zone for a 29-yard touchdown in the second quarter of Illinois 27-20 upset victory over then-No. 21 ranked Penn State, it was exactly what Illinois head coach Ron Zook envisioned when he signed the highly touted receiver last fall.

With Illinois' starting quarterback knocked out of the game in the second quarter and trailing 37-13 late in the third quarter, the season opener looked to be a lost cause for the Illini.

But the Illini refused to go quietly against Missouri in St. Louis, scoring 21 straight points to pull within three of the Tigers.

Kyle Hudson sat alone in the Memorial Stadium locker room Saturday morning, waiting for permission to join a football practice already in session. Hudson, who was scheduled to play in Illinois baseball's double-header against Northwestern, was carefully monitoring his hours of activity to stay within NCAA regulations and participate in both the baseball game and Illinois' first official scrimmage of the spring.
