Illinois forward Mike Davis broke his ankle in a workout Tuesday at the Ubben Basketball Complex and will miss 6-8 weeks.

Davis will withdraw from the USA Basketball Men's World University Game Team Trials that are set to begin on June 16.

According to Davis' twitter page, the junior injured his ankle "playing one on one with 2 of (his) teammates and shot a jumper and came down on his foot wrong."

"I am disappointed for Mike because I know how hard he's been working and how much he was looking forward to USA Basketball tryouts and the chance to represent his country," Illinois head coach Bruce Weber said in a press release. "But with adversity comes opportunity, and while he won't be able to participate in basketball activities for a while, he will be able to get in the weight room and work on adding weight and increasing his strength. Mike is a motivated young man and I'm confident he will make the most of this situation."

Davis was a second-team All-Big Ten selection last season after averaging 11.3 points per game and 8.1 rebounds per game.
