This Veterans Day, the Independent Media Center of Urbana-Champaign will take the opportunity for youth to rally and express their sense of loss for Kiwane Carrington while public schools are closed for the holiday.

Those who wish to take part will meet at the Independent Media Center, located at 202 S. Broadway Ave at Elm Street in Urbana, between 10 a.m. and noon to make signs and banners for the march, which will end at the Champaign County courthouse in downtown Champaign.

The surviving youth of the October 9, 2009 incident where a Champaign police fatally shot Carrington will be in juvenile court Thursday, November 12 at 11:00 a.m. State's Attorney Julia Rietz has dropped the burglary charge against the juvenile, but has now charged him with aggravated resisting of a police officer. The felony carries a possible three-year sentence.

The hearing is not open to the public but the IMC encourages the presence of supporters outside the courtroom. The name of the 15-year-old friend has not been released.

On Tuesday, November 10 at 7:00 p.m., a study session on the "Use of Force" policy of Champaign police will take place at city hall in downtown Champaign.
