Crime alert issued for robbery near Fifth and Stoughton Streets

Chief of Police Barbara O'Connor issued the Champaign and University of Illinois Police departments most recent crime alert Wednesday afternoon.

The alert was asking for information about an aggravated robbery that occurred near the intersection of Fifth and Stoughton Street at 1:25 a.m. Wednesday.

The victim observed a person across the street from her who appeared to be intoxicated, stumbled towards her and grabbed her by the throat and took her purse.

The offender was described as a medium toned black male, early twenties with a short hair cut and a very round face.

After grabbing the purse, the offender then ran to the east and was not located, although a witness saw a light colored car parked near the location. The witness believes that the car may have been involved with the incident.

The individual(s) involved in the situation along with the vechile have not been located. Any information regarding this situation is advised to be reported immediately, to the Champaign police or to Crimestoppers.

I was wondering when we'd see the next crime alert. Seems like we managed to go more than a couple weeks without one for once...
