For those looking to blend music and nature, the University’s fourth annual Allerton Music Barn Festival is the event to attend this weekend.

The festival begins Sept. 2 and runs through Sept. 6. Ticket’s for tonight and Saturday nights shows are already sold out. Tickets are $20 for students for a single concert and $100 for a weekend pass.

“Tickets are very limited at the door,” Karl Kramer, director of the school of music, said. “People should really get tickets on the Web site or at the Krannert box office.”

This year’s line-up up includes music ranging from jazz to classical chambers and more. Performers include Nathan and Julie Gunn, Jon Faddis and the Pacifica Quartet and Friends.

“The festival is a creative vision for historic preservation and excellence in music education and performance,” according to the Web site.

Kramer recommends arriving early to each concert for time to relax and hike around the grounds. Those looking to dine out for the night can eat at he Bistro Café.

“Come early, bring a picnic, the grounds are beautiful,” said Kramer.

The Allerton Music Barn is located on the south side of Allerton Park off Allerton Road in Monticello. The Illinois Bureau of Tourism named Allerton Park one of the Sevens Wonders of Illinois.
