Illini compete against world's best in tourney

The tournament has grown since 1995, attracting some of the nation's best up-and-coming athletes.
Illinois looks to make splash in Big Ten
11:33 PM 11/11/2004 — Three Illinois tennis players will get a sneak peek of their spring competition today when they compete in the Big Ten Singles Championship in Madison, Wis. Pramod Dabir was a freshman the last time he competed in the tournament and was crowned consolation champion.

Soccer set to take on Rice
11:39 PM 11/11/2004 — Last season the Illini soccer team was given an early exit from the NCAA Tournament; the Illini believe this season will be different.
The Illini travel to College Station, Texas to play Rice on Friday in the opening round of the tournament.
Last season, Illinois thought it looked too far ahead when it fell 2-0 to Western Michigan in the first round, junior defender Christen Karniski said.

Volleyball hopes to block Purdue, IU
11:43 PM 11/11/2004 — Late in the regular season, it seems the weakest opponents often make up the most important matches. Such a statement is especially true for the No. 25 Illinois women's volleyball team as they travel to Purdue and Indiana this Friday and Saturday.
With three of the Illini's final six opponents ranked in the top 10, a pair of wins this weekend against unranked teams would greatly improve the team's confidence and help establish the Illinois squad's dominance.
Women set to compete in cross country Regionals
11:43 PM 11/11/2004 — This weekend is what women's cross country has been waiting for all season. Tomorrow's NCAA Regional meet is the runners' chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships as a team, and also individually.
Head coach Karen Harvey said the team members are performing at their highest level yet and will bring their best game to the regional competition.
Illini sign top recruit
11:46 PM 11/11/2004 — The Illinois wrestling team received encouraging news Wednesday, with the signing of Sean Reynolds - the No. 12 recruit in the nation. Reynolds is the No. 2 recruit for his weight class at 145 pounds. He was an Illinois state champion his junior year at Providence Catholic High School and is from Frankfort, Ill.
Rookie pulls his weight
11:26 PM 11/11/2004 — After last season, the Illini Hockey Club needed more goal-scorers, and the rookie class has answered the call. In ten games, freshmen have been contributing just as much as seniors - two of the five leaders in points are rookies. One of those freshmen is forward Drew Heredia.
Team to make trip to regionals
11:10 PM 11/11/2004 — The men's cross country team will run at NCAA Regionals this Saturday at Newman Golf Course in Peoria. Redshirt freshman Matt Flaherty, sophomore Trent Hoerr, juniors Jason Bill, Eric Wallor, Dan Stock and Jon Houseworth and senior Kris Cunningham are scheduled to compete at the meet.
