Soccer heads to Sweet 16
11:33 PM 11/14/2004 — The Illini soccer team is heading to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time in program history after upsetting No. 7 Texas A&M on Sunday, 2-1 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Down 1-0 at halftime, the Illini found themselves in familiar territory.
Men defeat Lewis
11:34 PM 11/14/2004 — When the No. 5 Illini tripped around the zone defense of a Division-II team, head coach Bruce Weber told them to look for the open outside shot.
In doing so, he set the tone for Saturday's game, in which Illinois would eventually defeat Lewis 92-61 at Assembly Hall.

11:25 PM 11/14/2004 — The Illini hockey club special teams led the way, powering past the Kent State Flashes this weekend with six power-play goals on 11 chances. The Golden Flashes were scorched 4-1 and 5-1 by an Illini team on fire - undefeated in their last nine games. Friday night against Kent State, the Illini jumped out to a lightning-fast three-goal lead on three power-play goals in less than 10 minutes.
Athletes reap benefit of Challenger

He was able to go head-to-head against several top professional athletes at the ninth annual Northwestern Mutual/Wright Financial Group USTA Challenger - and he fared extremely well against the competition.
Illini play well, but split road weekend
11:28 PM 11/14/2004 — Sometimes, no matter how well a team performs, it seems its opponent has a comeback for every great play. Saturday night, the No. 25 Illinois women's volleyball team experienced one of those nights, losing to Purdue in a tough five-game battle.
In a match that featured many lead changes, the Illini were knocking on victory's door in game four.
