CNN anchor speaks to University students
11:40 PM 2/28/2005 — CNN anchor Anderson Cooper made it immediately clear to the nearly 500 people gathered in Foellinger Auditorium Monday night why he was at the University.
"I have an ulterior motive," Cooper said. "I need tickets to this Thursday's game."
Cooper, host of CNN's unconventional news program Anderson Cooper 360° and a frequent anchor of breaking news events on the network, then moved on to talk about his job, as he shared his experiences covering the Iraq war, the tsunami in Southeast Asia and numerous hurricanes.
Bus strikes student
11:39 PM 2/28/2005 — A University student was hit by an MTD bus Monday afternoon on Wright Street, just north of the Chalmers Street crosswalk by Lincoln Hall, said Champaign police officer Jim Bednarz. Benjamin Robin, junior in communications, was identified as the person hit by the bus.
Microsoft recalls faulty Xbox cables
11:42 PM 2/28/2005 — Concern that Xbox power cables may pose fire hazards prompted Microsoft to announce on Feb. 17 that the company will be recalling the power cables for 14.1 million affected Xbox units.
The recall, which covers all Xboxes made before Oct. 23, 2003, came after reports that cables gave users minor burns and scorched some carpets.

Council debates renter issues
11:56 PM 2/28/2005 — Landlords and residents debated a proposal in front of the Urbana City Council Monday night that would require property owners in West Urbana who rent out single-family homes to register their property with the city. The ordinance would require those property owners and managers to register their names, addresses and phone numbers with the city before they are allowed to rent the property.
