The upcoming three-day Labor Day weekend celebration means different things for different people on campus. For some, it offers a chance to sleep in, relax and socialize with friends. Yet for others, the extra day off means a day of catching up on work.
Professor Maria Mastronardi, who teaches in the speech communication and communications departments at the University, said she is looking forward to Labor Day weekend, yet she has no specific plans in mind.
"My sister will be coming to visit, so we'll probably just hang out and relax," she said. "But I should probably try to get some work done, too."
Aisha Durham, a graduate student in communications, said she will use the day off for "catch up."
"For me, a long weekend means I can actually sleep in and then get some work done," she said.
Sara Lee, sophomore in LAS, agreed.
"I'll definitely go out this weekend, but I'll probably spend Monday doing some last-minute cramming and doing homework," she said. "I'll have to actually do the work I've been putting off doing."
Some students on campus, however, plan to use the day to have fun.
Graduate student Beau Peterson said he is planning to do just that.
"I'm going to barbeque and just hang out with friends," he said. Labor Day offers chance to work or play.
