The complex, located at the corner of Third Street and Springfield Avenue, is still a work in progress. Mounds of dirt and dumpsters surround the building.
Project FYSH provides voice for foster youth
1:13 AM 10/10/2005 — Project Foster Youth Seen and Heard is providing a voice for foster youth in a new way. The Children and Family Research Center at the University, with the support of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, created the project in 2003 to improve the child welfare system in the state of Illinois.
Elaine Brown comes to campus
12:31 AM 10/10/2005 — The Black Panther's only female chairman, Elaine Brown, will be on campus Monday through Wednesday this week as a Guests-in-Residence at Allen Hall. According to Blackpanther.org, the Black Panther Party was created in 1966 as a result of the Civil Rights Movement, and was described as the last push for equality by black society.
Students spray-paint environmental slogans on University parking lot
1:08 AM 10/10/2005 — With spray-paint cans in hand, University students sported masks, safety goggles and bright orange vests in the parking lot of Assembly Hall Sunday afternoon in hopes of promoting environmental awareness.
The Illini Wildlife Society partnered with the Prairie Rivers Network, a non-profit conservation organization, to spray-paint stenciled messages on the sides of drains surrounding the parking lot.
Student organizations address LGBT issues
1:06 AM 10/10/2005 — Two new registered student organizations, Greek Allies and Colors of Pride, are seeking to counteract homophobia and address Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) issues in communities that commonly ignore them. Greek Allies, an organization comprised of people in and outside of the Greek system, wants to break the homophobic stereotype of Greek life and the LGBT community, said Brenda Lo, member of Alpha Delta Phi and junior in LAS.

Police blotter
1:11 AM 10/10/2005 — Champaign An unknown suspect entered a gas station at the 600 block of East University Avenue, urinated on the floor and left early Saturday morning. According to a police report, the suspect returned with another unknown subject. The suspect urinated a second time in the same location.
