Tupac's mother shares legacy of late son
2:22 AM 10/31/2005 — Afeni Shakur, mother of the late legendary West Coast rapper Tupac Shakur, spoke to a crowd of more than 100 people about motivating blacks to be more active in their communities at Foellinger Auditorium Sunday afternoon.
Shakur came to the University as the keynote speaker for the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity's 20th Annual Ritual, an event aimed at strengthening the black community.
Six University faculty members selected as Advancement of Science fellows

Out of the 376 newly elected members, six distinguished individuals are University faculty members. The distinct honor of the American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellow is awarded to a select few.
Joe's Brewery unveils new beer garden
2:03 AM 10/31/2005 — Joe's Brewery is now able to move some of its crowd outside, with the opening of the newly built beer garden last Saturday.
Joe's Brewery, 706 S. Fifth St., a multi-floor bar and restaurant, made its renovations and additions open to the public. Crowds filtered in and out of the new, brick-paved beer garden, an addition that stands over the old parking lot.

Sousa Center lauds variety of forms of American musical forms

Lincoln Ave. At Pix for Pets, Tom Schaefges, a renowned companion animal photographer, took photographs of pets with their families, with Santa or with both for a sitting fee of $50.

Business forum pushes language skills
2:17 AM 10/31/2005 — The hallway of the third floor in the Illini Union was filled with groups of students engaged in fluent conversation in French and English on Thursday for the Tenth Annual French Means Business Forum. The forum, hosted by the University's French department, informed students about internships and employment opportunities in careers that require knowledge of foreign languages.
Police blotter
2:20 AM 10/31/2005 — Champaign Two 19-year-old Urbana women were arrested Saturday evening at the 1800 block of Neil Street. According to a police report, after a road rage incident involving two cars, the vehicles pulled into a parking lot where one of the women pulled a baseball bat from her vehicle and threatened the passengers in the other vehicle.
