New Pap test clears up confusion for students
2:03 AM 11/4/2005 — Many female students mistakenly believe an abnormal Pap test result automatically means cancer. However, a recent and more efficient way of screening for such abnormalities called the ThinPrep Pap Test is helping combat this misconception. The Food and Drug Administration approved the ThinPrep Pap Test in 1996, stating that it is "significantly more effective," according to the official Web site of the Cytyc Corporation, a medical device company that provides products focused on women's health.
Journalist Ted Rall speaks at MillerComm lecture series
2:26 AM 11/4/2005 — Ted Rall, journalist, columnist and cartoonist, spoke about various political views and issues facing the current government Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Levis Faculty Center, 919 W. Illinois St., in Urbana.
Rall, as an internationally known syndicated journalist and cartoonist whose work appears in over 140 newspapers, came to the University to present his views on the current administration and his opinion on specific governmental issues.
Cultural conference to focus on taking action

Illini Union Courtyard Cafe to host poetry slam Friday
2:57 AM 11/4/2005 — The Illini Union Courtyard Cafe will hold a poetry slam featuring the Welfare Poets and DJ VerACEcious Friday from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. There is a $2 admission fee for the general public and free admission for University students. The poetry slam, which is hosted by Blue Room, an open mic poetry set by La Casa Cultural Latina, will offer an open mic feature and a performance by the Welfare Poets, a group of activists, educators and artists from New York.
Coalition Against Coke Contracts lecture sparks controversy
2:26 AM 11/4/2005 — Coca-Cola vending machines are a familiar sight all over University buildings. The company has a 10-year, 10-milion dollar contract with the University, a contract that will be coming up for renewal in June 2007. Recently, there has been mounting opposition to the contract from the Coalition Against Coke Contracts as well as the University chapter of Students Against Sweatshops and other campus organizations.
Barnes becomes Champaign deputy liquor commissioner
1:41 AM 11/4/2005 — Stephen Barnes took over as Champaign's deputy liquor commissioner Tuesday, replacing Assistant City Manager Paul Berg, who said he left the role to oversee other projects within the city. Barnes, who as assistant to the city manager worked directly under Berg, said he would use his role to support the city's liquor advisory commission and help them with decision-making processes.

According to a police report, an unknown offender threw a pumpkin through the back window and a rock through the windshield of the man's truck sometime between Monday night and Wednesday evening.
