Theft at Illini Union increases
10:01 PM 2/26/2006 — Over the past several years, there has been a steady increase in the number of thefts occurring within the Illini Union and its surrounding area, according to reports recorded by University Police. Joonil Kwak, graduate student, said he recently had his wallet stolen from the recreational room of the Union while playing on the dancing machines.
Illini fans celebrate two seniors
11:31 PM 2/26/2006 — Dee Brown clutched son Darrian's hand as he stood in the tunnel looking out at the Assembly Hall arena. He stretched to see around the crowd of photographers and fans snapping pictures as James Augustine stood at center court with his parents and sister.
Brown and Augustine were honored Saturday in their last game at Assembly Hall.
Capsules release medicine on cue
10:06 PM 2/26/2006 — Temperature-sensitive capsules can release drugs on command, according to a study by a University professor that was published last week in the journal of Physical Review Letters. The capsules are an unprecedented application of mechanics to drug delivery, a field dominated by pharmacologists and chemical engineers, said Sahraoui Chaieb, scientist and professor of mechanical engineering at the University.
Illinois reduces tattoo age
10:07 PM 2/26/2006 — Lawmakers lowered the legal age for tattoos early this year from 21 to 18, even after Gov. Rod Blagojevich's objections in August 2005. After the law took effect on Jan. 1, business at local tattoo parlors substantially increased. Baha'i followers bring slice of home to campus
11:44 PM 2/26/2006 — Baklava, a Middle Eastern pastry; grapes; and strawberries were the foods that helped the Baha'i student association celebrate Ayyam-i-ha, which is a four-day period of festive activities before a month of fasting. Police blotter
11:46 PM 2/26/2006 — Champaign n A 23-year-old man reported theft from his residence at the 200 block of East Green Street late Friday night. According to a police report, the man allowed an unknown offender into his apartment to use the telephone. Upon entering, the offender grabbed the man's wallet and cash and fled immediately.
