Carle adds new space
The Carle Foundation will be opening up their North Tower, a $45 million expansion project, progressively over the next two months. There will be five new floors of office space for Medical/Surgical, Pediatrics, Neonatal Intensive Care and Obstetrician Service units.
ACES students send books to Egypt
Students in the ACES Global Ambassador program will finish loading seven tons of agricultural books and journals donated by the University and Purdue University at 4:15 p.m. today. They will be shipped to Fayoum University, located in Al Fayyum, Egypt.
Socialist Equality Party candidate at Alma Mater
Joe Parnarauskis, Socialist Equality Party candidate for State Senate in the 52nd district, will hold a press conference at 3:30 p.m. today in front of the Alma Mater on the corner of Wright and Green streets. The State Board of Elections will decide tomorrow whether or not Parnarauskis will be allowed to run.
Spoken word and poetry writer, performer and teacher at Allen Hall
Aya de Leon, a black/Puerto Rican writer and performer from Oakland, Calif., will be the guest-in-residence at Allen Hall between Sept. 10 and Sept. 14. Leon, who has taught poetry and spoken word at Stanford University and currently teaches at the University of California-Berkeley, has released two spoken word CDs and has been featured on HBO's "Def Poetry Jam."
Champaign schools receive grant
The Champaign Unit 4 School District received a $154,157 Novice Teacher Mentor grant in August from the Illinois State Board of Education. The grant was awarded to support collaborations between Champaign Unit 4 and the Champaign Federation of Teachers. The grant plans to design and implement a new Novice Teacher Support Program.
