Anti-war protests abound in Champaign, Washington
11:35 PM 1/28/2007 — Residents of Champaign, Urbana and other surrounding cities gathered in downtown Champaign Saturday afternoon to protest the war in Iraq, joining their efforts with protestors in Washington D.C. despite cold temperatures and strong winds. Protestors expressed disapproval of President Bush's recently proposed increase in troops, as well as what they say is the Bush administration's deception of the American people.

ISAC sells loan portfolio, plans for financial aid
7:01 PM 1/27/2007 — The Illinois Student Assistance Commission unanimously approved the sale of $648 million in student loans to two major firms last Friday, said Claude Walker, Director of State Relations for the Commission.
The sale of the loans will finance Gov. Blagojevich's MAP Plus program, which makes grants up to $250 per semester available to eligible students.

7:10 PM 1/27/2007 — It was dark when Sara Maletta, freshman in FAA, drove into New Orleans with a van full of other college students. Maletta watched the homes she passed on the way to the converted parochial school where she would be staying for a week. The homes were devastated and rundown.

"We've been using an optical bio-sensor method to help us quickly look at what the interaction is between drug compounds that are derived from plants and their effect on human cancer cells," said Brian Cunningham, an associate professor of electrical and computer engineering.

Indiana House votes unanimously to reject sale taxes on textbooks
1:29 AM 1/26/2007 — BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - A House bill that could eliminate taxes on college textbooks passed through the state's Committee on Education with a unanimous vote of 12-0, said Indiana University Student Association Vice President Andrew Lauck.
The IUSA-supported bill also saw a change that added graduate textbooks to the tax exemption.

State officials examine Harvey police station
