It's final. The Chief is gone.

The Board of trustees met yesterday morning to discuss whether the February 16th decision to rid Chief Illiniwek would hold.

The motion was carried with Trustee David V. Dorris as the only opposing member.

Trustee Robert Sperling says that although he's sad to see the chief go, he's ready to move on from the issue.

"We have to look at the long term benefit for this university and that is not to have this situation litigated further, its got to be over, at one time or another it's got to change."

Current Chief portrayer Dan Maloney is upset at the decision, but realizes he and the other chiefs must move on from here.

"I am disappointed mainly because I still feel like I am an outsider on this and as the current potrayer of Chief Illiniwek kind of feel like I have no say in this."

The Board of Trustees decided not to support former chief potrayers Dan Maloney and Logan Ponce in their lawsuit.
