"Although it wasn't long ago that Jawed himself was receiving his degree, he already has made a huge impact on people around the world," Chancellor Richard Herman said in a press release.

Asian students work for change
5:26 PM 3/28/2007 — More than 800 students registered to attend the Midwest Asian American Students Union annual spring conference held this year at the University March 23, 24 and 25.
Charles Chang was a student at Ohio State University when he founded the union. He said he started the organization in 1989 to facilitate Asian American self-empowerment, political power and networking possibilities.

Microsoft program fundraises with each online conversation
7:31 PM 3/27/2007 — Instant messaging with Windows Live Messenger 8.1 not only connects customers to their family and friends but also fundraises for nine non-profit organizations through Microsoft's i'm Initiative.
According to a March 7 press release, Microsoft will donate a share of the program's advertising profits each time a participant has a conversation with Windows Live Messenger.

1:01 AM 3/27/2007 — CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Two new wildfires began Monday, adding to an outbreak of more than a dozen blazes in eastern Tennessee that included 10 suspected as arson.
As of Monday morning, the fires north of Knoxville had burned 2,300 acres - more than three and half square miles, said Nathan Waters, a state assistant district forester.

Urbana prepares to handle next winter's snow removal

Danville police make no arrests in deadly shootings
1:20 AM 3/27/2007 — DANVILLE, Ill. - Police said they had leads but had made no arrests Monday in the weekend shooting deaths of three people at a duplex next door to a Danville fire station.
"The detective group is working on some leads, but that's all we have right now," police and fire spokesman Larry Thomason said of the Sunday shootings.
