8:05 PM 4/4/2007 — Another armed robbery occurred this morning in Champaign that University police feel is connected to similar armed robberies over the past weekend. The incidents that occurred over the weekend were detailed in a mass e-mail sent to students by University Police Chief Krystal Fitzpatrick.

Testing Center internal theft loss: $90,000
10:50 AM 4/4/2007 — At the University Testing Center, 610 E. John St., a discrepancy in the reported number of tests taken and the actual number of tests taken has lead to a loss of $90,000 over three years.
"(A former employee) at the Testing Center had not fully reported the number of tests given," said Robin Kaler, University spokeswoman.

Mayor suspends liquor licenses of two campus bars
9:46 PM 4/4/2007 — Champaign Mayor Gerald Schweighart has suspended the liquor licenses of Clybourne, 706 S. Sixth St., and Bar Louie, 510 E. John St., citing license violations.
According to a press release from the City of Champaign, Cylbourne's license will be suspended for two days, from April 7 to 8 for serving alcohol to minors and announcing the presence of police to warn other minors.

Physical forces create chemical reactions

This discovery combines both chemistry and physics into the science of mechanochemistry, where applied physical forces can create chemical reactions and lead to a pre-determined outcome.

City of Urbana secures funding for intersection upgrades
1:03 PM 4/4/2007 — Over $60,000 of state money was released in the form of grants for two local projects that will see intersections in Urbana upgraded and a social service center in Champaign remodeled.
The city of Urbana is set to receive $11,250 of state grant money to upgrade six intersections to include countdown technology and audible pedestrian signals.

Woman shot, killed at CNN building
11:48 PM 4/3/2007 — ATLANTA - A domestic dispute erupted in gunfire at CNN's headquarters complex Tuesday, killing a woman and critically wounding the ex-boyfriend who pulled a gun on her, authorities said.
The man and woman were arguing near the main entrance of the complex when the man shot her, police officer James Polite said.

Prehistoric whale skeleton excavated
11:53 PM 4/3/2007 — ROME - Italian researchers have excavated the skeleton of a 4 million-year-old whale in the Tuscan countryside, a discovery that could help reconstruct the prehistoric environment of the sea that once covered the region, officials said Tuesday.
The 33-foot skeleton, dating to the Pliocene epoch, was found in almost perfect order, with only the jaw bones out of place, said paleontologists with the Museum of Natural History in Florence.

Miller attended the city council meeting to speak on behalf of a 17-year-old black man who was arrested Friday night on charges of resisting arrest as he walked through Douglass Park after the park was closed.
