ROME - A school spokesman says a University student from Park Ridge was stabbed with an umbrella during an altercation in Italy and remains hospitalized in Rome.

University spokesman Jeff Unger says 21-year-old Matthew Bochenek, an engineering major at the Champaign-Urbana campus, was in Italy visiting friends when he was stabbed in the chest during a fight Thursday that involved about 20 people.

School officials did not have details on the altercation or Bochenek's injuries. Unger says police in Italy are investigating the incident.
