11:29 PM 4/8/2007 — On a warm day a student may see Greg Schechter riding his unicycle to class. Once inside the classroom you might also catch Schechter, sophomore in Engineering, using a slide rule on one of his computer science tests.
"(A slide rule) is something my mom used," said Suraj Samaranayake, junior in Engineering.

Undergraduate Library celebrates 40 years
11:30 PM 4/8/2007 — Sept. 21, 2006, marked the 40-year anniversary of the groundbreaking to build the Undergraduate Library. In 2009, another celebratory day will take place in its history, as it marks the 40th anniversary of the grand opening of the library. In the east lobby of the Main Library, an exhibit opened on April 4 commemorating the Undergraduate Library's 40 years of service to students at the University of Illinois.

Student stabbed while abroad
3:16 PM 4/9/2007 — A University student was recently stabbed while in Rome during his time studying abroad in Spain. Matthew Bochenek, junior in Engineering, is currently hospitalized after the incident, according to spokesperson on the issue Jeff Unger, director of the News Bureau.

New process changes smell, taste of water
10:37 PM 4/8/2007 — The Illinois American Water Company, operators of Champaign-Urbana's water system, recently switched its water disinfection method. The process is planned to carry through the end of this month.
This method will switch from a chlorine-ammonia disinfectant to a method that only uses chlorine and the water will differ noticeably in taste and smell.

Police say suspect in Detroit-area office shooting had worked for the accounting firm
2:06 PM 4/9/2007 — TROY, Mich. (AP) - A man suspected of shooting three people at an accounting firm where he had worked was arrested a few hours later after a high-speed chase, authorities said. One victim died shortly after the Monday morning attack.
Police said they had located Anthony LaCalamita, 38, of Troy on Interstate 75, north of the suburban Detroit office building where the shootings took place.
