Illinois wins 1st game, unable to take series against Minnesota
12:50 AM 4/30/2007 — For the second straight weekend the Illinois baseball team was unable to earn a series win or split after winning the first game of its four-game series against Minnesota. Behind sophomore pitcher Tanner Roark's team-high fifth win the Illini remained perfect in Big Ten series openers, beating the Gophers 10-5 on Friday night at Illinois Field.

Women's track turns in 16 regional-qualifying marks
12:56 AM 4/30/2007 — The Illinois women's track and field team headed into the weekend with two main goals: earn more regional qualifying marks and prepare for the Big Ten Championships. Although the latter isn't something easily measured, the team did get qualifying marks.
The team earned 16 regional qualifying marks, won four events, posted 14 season bests and nine personal bests.

Women's golf reaches goal in tournament
12:52 AM 4/30/2007 — The Illinois women's golf team finished the season on a high note, coming in sixth place at the Big Ten Tournament.
The finish allowed the Illini to achieve one of their preseason goals of finishing in the top six in the Big Ten.
Playing on the familiar Forest Akers West Golf Course at Michigan State, the Illini earned their highest team finish at the Big Ten Tournament since 2002.

Softball loses three to ranked teams
12:54 AM 4/30/2007 — The Illini softball team dropped three games this weekend to No. 11 DePaul and No. 9 Northwestern and was no-hit by the Wildcats in Sunday's second game. Illini hitters struggled at the plate all weekend tallying a combined eight hits. "We're really pressing at the plate and then when you're facing a quality pitcher you start to not swing at the right pitches and swing at the bad pitches," head coach Terri Sullivan said.

Men's tennis team falls to Ohio State

The Illini avenged an earlier loss to Michigan and advanced to the Big Ten tournament final this weekend, but fell there to the Buckeyes for the second year in a row.

Women's tennis falls to Gophers, finishes season
12:55 AM 4/30/2007 — History repeated itself as the Illinois women's tennis team fell to Minnesota 4-0 on Thursday, ending the Illini's postseason play in the Big Ten Tournament.
Just four days prior to the match, the Gophers dropped Illinois 5-2 to end the regular season.
"I thought the match went obviously not as well as we had hoped," head coach Michelle Dasso said.

Masheto wins at Men's track special invitational
12:51 AM 4/30/2007 — The Illinois men's track and field team made its final preparations for the Big Ten Championships last weekend at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. The team maintained its good reputation at the Relays and added more regional qualifiers.
Sophomore Lesiba Masheto won the special invitational 400-meter title in front of a sellout crowd on Saturday with a time of 46.
