Parade's ban of Chief logo lifted
12:41 AM 10/26/2007 — Homecoming floats in Friday's parade will be able to display the Chief Illiniwek logo in a reversal of a new policy enacted this year by the Homecoming committee.
Chancellor Richard Herman has directed the committee to cancel the policy included in the Homecoming parade float guidelines that prohibited participants from using the Chief Illiniwek logo, according to a statement released Thursday by the University News Bureau.

Illini football is eligible to go bowling

Illinois led 7-3 at the half, but used strong second half performances by quarterback Juice Williams and running back Rashard Mendenhall to win 28-17.

Three Illini football players no longer under investigation for bar incident
2:44 PM 10/26/2007 — The Champaign Police Department confirmed Friday afternoon that investigations on the incident involving three Illini football players on Oct. 18 are closed.
Rene Dunn, assistant to the chief of police for community services from the Champaign Police Department, said that no further information was available that could possibly establish grounds for further arrest.

Pep rally cancelled; homecoming parade still to take place
4:22 PM 10/26/2007 — The pep rally scheduled to take place on the Quad after the homecoming parade has been cancelled because of rain, according to a University of Illinois News Bureau media advisory. The homecoming parade will still occur.
"There have been a lot of rumors flying around" about whether the parade will take place, said Vanessa Faurie, vice president of corporate communications for the University of Illinois Alumni Association.

Law will secure pensions for disabled firefighters
12:46 AM 10/26/2007 — A bill that will help disabled Illinois firefighters secure their pensions was signed into law on Oct. 17.
The new law guarantees that firefighters who apply for disability pensions will not be discriminated against should their application be rejected. It also states that three physician opinions necessary for the request need not agree as to the existence or extent of a disability.

Officials discover four bodies burnt by Calif. wildfires
12:39 AM 10/26/2007 — SAN DIEGO - Four charred bodies were found Thursday in an apparent migrant camp burned by one of the wildfires raging across Southern California, authorities said Thursday. If the fire was responsible for the deaths - which authorities said was not immediately certain - it would mean seven people have died in the flames that have consumed about 750 square miles since the weekend.

University police investigate officer's use of weapon
6:54 PM 10/25/2007 — A University Police Officer is back on the job after being placed on paid leave. The officer was put on leave Monday because he fired his gun at an alleged robber in Urbana early that morning. University Assistant Chief of Police Jeff Christensen says a team is still investigating the use of the weapon.

Chicago judge refuses to release names of accused officers; aldermen may sue
11:13 PM 10/25/2007 — CHICAGO - A federal judge on Thursday refused to order the city to give aldermen the names of Chicago police officers accused of misconduct - a ruling that could prompt the aldermen to sue.
U.S. District Judge Joan Humphrey Lefkow said she no longer has jurisdiction to order the names released to aldermen because the city has appealed to the 7th U.
