Chief Illiniwek issue steps closer to vote by students
11:02 PM 2/10/2008 — Students for Chief Illiniwek has collected the required number of student signatures to add a referendum question regarding the issue of Chief Illiniwek to the student elections ballot.
The election will take place later this month.
"I wanted to present a question about the Chief to the campus," said Roberto Martell, an officer of Students for Chief Illiniwek and sophomore in LAS.

I 'heart' Relay concert kicks off Relay for Life

"We just wanted a big turnout and for people to get excited for the events and learn more, and we think we accomplished that," said Jeremy Rose, senior in LAS and Colleges Against Cancer Relay for Life co-chair.

Lost of printing contract may hurt Champaign newspaper
1:53 PM 2/11/2008 — CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The publisher of The News-Gazette says the newspaper will cut at least seven jobs and maybe more because it will no longer print certain editions of the Chicago Tribune.
For 25 years, The News-Gazette has printed the Tribune's Midwest edition for distribution south of Chicago.

Having swept all five Democratic presidential contests over the weekend, Obama also was counting on wins in Tuesday's primaries in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Fire destroys centuries-old Seoul gate dubbed SKorea's top national treasure
1:51 PM 2/11/2008 — SEOUL, South Korea - An overnight fire destroyed a 610-year-old landmark that was considered the top national treasure, officials said Monday. Police said the cause of the blaze was unclear but officials said arson was suspected.
The fire broke out Sunday night and burned down the wooden structure at the top of the Namdaemun gate that once formed part of a wall that encircled the South Korean capital.

For the first time, The Academy of Natural Sciences is displaying a scrapbook that has locks of hair from the first 12 U.S. presidents. It will be on view Feb. 16-18. The presidential "hair album" was assembled by Peter Arvell Browne, a Philadelphia attorney and scholar of the natural sciences who collected thousands of samples of animal fur and human hair in the 1840s and 1850s and organized them in a dozen leather-bound volumes.

8:35 PM 2/10/2008 — Champaign A 23-year-old Rantoul, Ill. woman reported disorderly conduct at the 900 block of West Marketview Drive Tuesday afternoon. According to a police report, a 36-year-old Tuscola, Ill. woman was upset after a short argument and threw a cigarette into the victim's vehicle then hit the vehicle with her hand.
