UI student takes time off to raise new baby
11:43 PM 3/24/2008 — She was on the way to her doctor's appointment. Today had been a day that she had been thinking about, a day she had been stressing over so much in the previous days.
In the car on the way to her doctor's office, she broke down and cried.
"I broke down and said 'I couldn't do it,'" said Deanna Moreno, sophomore in Communications, and she went home instead.

Council looks into commission and program for arts
12:20 AM 3/25/2008 — The Urbana City Council's Committee of the Whole discussed an ordinance Monday night to establish a public arts commission and permanent public arts program. While the ordinance was not voted on, many Council members expressed their affinity for the program, which could be used to support a variety of performance and beautification projects around Urbana.

Cheney: Hamas spoiling peace talks
12:59 AM 3/25/2008 — ANKARA, Turkey - Vice President Dick Cheney, concluding two days of talks with Israeli and Palestinian leaders, said Monday that Hamas militants and their backers in Iran and Syria are playing the role of spoiler in Mideast peace talks.
"It is clearly a difficult situation, in part, because I think it's true, there's evidence, that Hamas is supported by Iran and Syria and that they're doing everything they can to torpedo the peace process," Cheney told reporters before heading to Turkey, the final stop on his 10-day trip to the Mideast.

Champaign Children's Advocacy Center promotes awareness
2:45 PM 3/25/2008 — Silhouettes of boys and girls will be put up at about 30 locations in the Champaign-Urbana area by Friday in promotion of the "Silent Witness" campaign by the Champaign County Children's Advocacy Center.
The "Silent Witness" campaign will recognize National Child Abuse Prevention Month for the second year with these blue silhouettes meant to represent the unknown and the known children that have suffered from neglect and abuse, according to a press release by the Children's Advocacy Center.
