Lawyers report $11 million settlement for Virginia Tech victims
1:03 PM 4/10/2008 — ROANOKE, Va. - Lawyers for families of the victims in the Virginia Tech shootings say they have reached an $11 million settlement with the state.
The settlement is designed to avoid future lawsuits.
Lawyers Peter Grenier and Douglas Fierberg say the terms of the deal were worked out Thursday.

Campus buildings to receive ventilation system upgrades

Initial autopsy: 'natural causes'
12:27 AM 4/10/2008 — No official statement has been issued yet by the University regarding the death of Cathy Acevedo, associate dean of students.
Acevedo's death was confirmed Tuesday afternoon by Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Renee Romano.
In a phone interview Wednesday afternoon, Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said that a preliminary autopsy indicates that she died of natural causes.

Flu shot program expanded
11:38 PM 4/9/2008 — The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), a federal panel of 15 experts from immunization-related fields, voted Feb. 27 to expand annual flu shots for all children ages 6 months to 18 years by the year 2010.
Previously, the flu shots were recommended for children ages 6 months to 5 years.

Torch rerouted to avoid protests

The planned closing ceremony at the San Francisco Bay waterfront was canceled and another one was planned at San Francisco International Airport.

Program receives approval to become department

The African American Studies and Research Program became a full-fledged department after approval at the Urbana-Champaign Senate meeting March 31.
Though the change increases the legitimacy of the new department, Acting Director Jennifer Hamer said that she believes the change is nothing but a formality.
