UI tops list for foreign enrollment
12:11 AM 4/11/2008 — International enrollment at the University has gradually increased this decade, but it was not until this year that the University enrolled more international students than any other public university in the nation.
According to the Division of Management Information Web site, which compiles enrollment numbers, the majority of these international students are graduate students.

Police continue to investigate fatal car accident
2:40 PM 4/11/2008 — After hitting several trees at a high rate of speed around 10:30p.m. Thursday, William Brown, 28, of Springfield, Ill. was pronounced dead at Carle Foundation Hospital about a half hour later. There were two other passengers injured in the crash as well, one in "serious" condition, according to a press release from the Champaign Police Department.

Lungless aquatic frog proves rare discovery
2:26 PM 4/11/2008 — BANGKOK, Thailand - A frog has been found in a remote part of Indonesia that has no lungs and breathes through its skin, a discovery that researchers said Thursday could provide insight into what drives evolution in certain species.
The aquatic frog Barbourula kalimantanensis was found in a remote part of Indonesia's Kalimantan province on Borneo island during an expedition in August 2007, said David Bickford, an evolutionary biologist at the National University of Singapore.

Wal-Mart profits increasing despite slump in economy
2:27 PM 4/11/2008 — Consumers may be suffering because of the state of the economy, but for Wal-Mart locally and nationally, the recent slump has had little effect.
According to a company letter sent by Tom Schoewe, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Wal-Mart, the company reported sales of $106 billion for the most recent quarter, making it the first retailer to have sales exceed $100 billion.

Cluster of storms rage through US heartland
12:10 AM 4/11/2008 — ST. LOUIS - A line of severe thunderstorms, possible tornadoes and even snow pounded the nation's heartland on Thursday, flooding nearly 200 roads in Missouri, closing schools in Arkansas and ripping the roofs off dozens of houses in Texas. The band of storms stretched from Colorado and Nebraska, which was expected to get up to 10 inches of snow, to Texas, where high winds and driving rain at one point left a quarter of a million people without power.

UI junior running for state representative

Blagojevich waiting for disaster declaration approval
4:23 PM 4/11/2008 — Gov. Rod Blagojevich asked President Bush to declare 15 southern Illinois counties major disaster areas as a result of flooding that devastated those areas in March, damaging hundreds of homes and businesses. As of Friday, the Governor's office is still waiting for the approval.

Hunters lose with budget squeeze
11:57 PM 4/10/2008 — The Controlled Pheasant Hunting Program is on Gov. Blagojevich's chopping block, and Illinois pheasant hunters face unpleasant realities if the program loses its funding.
According to Illinois Pheasants Forever, a Web site promoting habitat availability for the birds, the governor's office recently sent a directive to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources that would end the program.

Police report
9:28 PM 4/10/2008 — Champaign A 54-year-old man, a 50-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman reported burglary at the Zero block of East John Street on Tuesday afternoon. According to a police report, unknown offenders burglarized the 54-year-old victim's vehicle. During the investigation, two other vehicles were found to be burglarized as well.
