Earthquake rocks Champaign, Midwest
8:23 PM 4/18/2008 — WEST SALEM, Ill. - A 5.2-magnitude earthquake centered in southern Illinois rattled homes and skyscrapers across the Midwest early Friday, causing little damage but surprising residents unaccustomed to such a powerful temblor. The quake , one of the strongest ever recorded in Illinois, occurred just before 4:37 a.m.

Militants continue attacks on Gaza border
11:55 PM 4/17/2008 — GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - Israeli troops fended off Palestinian gunmen who assaulted a crossing on the Gaza border Thursday, thwarting the third attempt by militants to infiltrate into Israel in a week. One Palestinian was reported killed in the clash, which followed a day of fighting between Israeli forces and Gaza militants that killed three Israeli soldiers and 21 Palestinians, including five children and a news cameraman.

11:03 PM 4/17/2008 — NORTH ARLINGTON, N.J. - Mayor Peter Massa put out a citywide cat call when his Maine Coon disappeared. Massa had an automatic call sent to 8,500 voters on Wednesday asking for help finding Max. Turns out he didn't have to look that far. Massa's wife, Val, says 14-year-old Max was found inside a wall of their house Thursday morning.

1:05 AM 4/21/2008 — TITUSVILLE, Fla. - A Bahamian girl's seaborne school project has landed on the sandy doorstep of NASA. United Space Alliance worker Jill Vogel found a message in a bottle from a student at the Holy Name Catholic School in Bimini, about 220 miles southeast of Titusville and closest to Florida of all the Bahamas islands.

12:18 AM 4/21/2008 — Champaign A 22-year-old man reported property damage at the 500 block of South Third Street on Friday afternoon. According to a police report, an unknown suspect broke a window of the victim's residence. No arrests had been made at the time of the report. A 50-year-old woman, two 20-year-old men and two 20-year-old women were arrested for alcohol charges at the 300 block of East Green Street on April 13.
