Ellis pleads guilty for 2007 laptop theft
7:04 PM 5/13/2008 — Former Illini football player Jody Ellis appeared in court today and pleaded guilty to a class three felony for the March 2007 theft of a laptop. Ellis will serve 120 days in jail and spend 30 months on probation. He will spend his time on probation in Maryland.

The 160-unit Campus Property Management apartment building at 512 S. Third St., was surrounded by police officers with weapons drawn, cars with lights blazing and confused residents by the time Rice and his roommate returned from their errand.

Champaign City Council to discuss apartment inspections
11:16 AM 5/13/2008 — The city of Champaign may be taking additional steps to provide more safety in apartment buildings, but it will come with a price.
On Tuesday night, the Champaign City Council, among other items, is scheduled to consider the new Multifamily Common Area Inspection Program, which is designed to inspect buildings with three or more living units.

Committee asks Urbana to draft law limiting drivers' use of phones
1:07 PM 5/13/2008 — The Urbana City Council Committee of the Whole directed city staff to create an ordinance restricting cell phone use while driving during its Monday night meeting.
Under the motion, the city plans to create an ordinance making penalties more severe for those involved in an accident while using a cell phone.

1:29 AM 5/13/2008 — Champaign A 21-year-old man reported burglary at the 00 block of East John Street early Thursday morning. According to a police repoirt, the victim went to the library to study and when he returned his laptop was missing. No arrests had been made at the time of the report.

1:25 AM 5/13/2008 — WEST JORDAN, Utah - Tom McLelland was both proud papa and happy grad during commencement at an Ohio law school. McLelland, 58, and his son, Ryan, graduated together Sunday with law degrees from Ohio Northern University in Ada and may open a practice together at home in Utah.
