Flood watch issued for Champaign County as more storms approach
5:10 PM 6/3/2008 — The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for portions of Central Illinois, including Champaign County, through this evening. Though the morning's storms have moved to the east leaving behind more than 2 inches of rain, new storms could produce another 2 to 3 inches of rain in short periods of time.

Blagojevich: Budget plan fails due to huge deficit
5:09 PM 6/3/2008 — After reviewing the budget passed by the General Assembly before Saturday's deadline, Gov. Rod Blagojevich announced Monday his budget experts had determined their completed plan is unconstitutional, thanks to a $2.1 billion deficit.
The legislature must pass a "balanced budget," according to the Illinois State Constitution.

CCC to vote on budget for fiscal year
2:49 PM 6/3/2008 — The Champaign City Council will vote on a number of ordinances at their meeting Tuesday night pertaining to the budget for Fiscal Year 2008/09.
The expenditures for the fiscal year, not including interfund transfers, will be $120,343,650. This includes a $29 million budget for the Capital Improvement Plan, a program to fund various construction and maintenance issues around the city.

Soil at gas plant may be hazardous
10:43 PM 6/2/2008 — The results of soil samples to determine whether the site of a former gas plant at Fifth and Hill streets in Champaign is hazardous to the health of neighbors should be available by the beginning of July.
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency plans to evaluate the samples taken by Ameren IP from inside and outside the land.
