Illinois hospitals use video games for therapy

Following a growing national trend in injury treatment, Provena United Samaritans Medical Center recently integrated the Nintendo Wii, a game system encouraging a wide range of physical motion, into its therapy program in hopes of adding a recreational yet beneficial spin on the recovery process.

State employees push for end to contract stalemate
11:51 PM 6/23/2008 — SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Thousands of state workers converged on the Capitol Monday to ratchet up pressure on the Blagojevich administration to end a stalemate over a new union deal before the current one expires next week.
A new contract for more than 35,000 state employees represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees remains at an impasse after seven months of negotiations.

Champaign to analyze results of pedestrian safety, traffic light programs
1:15 PM 6/24/2008 — The Champaign City Council will be looking into pedestrian safety during its study session Tuesday night.
During the meeting, staff will bring forward the results of the Downtown Traffic Signal and Pedestrian Safety Study, designed to look for needed improvements for traffic lights in the downtown area.

Foul play not likely in apartment blaze
12:07 PM 6/24/2008 — Although the cause is yet to be determined, foul play is not expected to be involved in fire at a Champaign apartment complex at 2407 Hampshire Drive on Friday.
The 12-unit Twin Oaks Apartment complex was heavily damaged and two firefighters received minor injuries while fighting the blaze there Friday afternoon.

UI taking part in global software competition
11:40 PM 6/23/2008 — The Agency for Science Technology and Research, commonly referred to as A*STAR, is holding a global competition to initiate the creation of a software that would enable people to search for videos and music on the internet using audible words and phrases.
Among the participants are some of the University's own, self-named team UIUC-YX.

Decatur to host conference detailing Illinois prison closures
11:53 PM 6/23/2008 — Illinois state Senators Christine Radogno, R-Lemont, and Dan Rutherford, R-Pontiac, are scheduled to hold a press conference Tuesday at the Illinois Department of Corrections in Decatur. The conference is part of a multi-city tour of correctional facilities to support the legislators' belief that potential prison closures could hurt the state.

11:16 PM 6/23/2008 — Champaign Mobil Super Pantry, 59 E. Green St., reported theft Saturday evening. According to a police report, a 34-year-old man was arrested after he left the store without paying for a can of Bud Light. Country Market, 1914 Glen Park Drive, reported theft on June 12.

11:18 PM 6/23/2008 — OXFORD, Maine - Maine's newest museum looks a lot like a gas station. Lamb's Antique Gas Station Museum, which opened to the public over the weekend, is dedicated to all things related to Shell gasoline. Jim Lamb's grandfather once owned a Shell station and Lamb caught the memorabilia bug after somebody gave him a key chain featuring his grandfather's Shell station logo.
