From Canada to Beijing: The journey of one Illini soccer player

The conference has witnessed over and over again her vicious slide tackle - a physical act only she could make look elegant and graceful. The Illinois junior has been one of the conference's premiere defenders since her freshman debut in 2005, winning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year in 2006 and has been named Big Ten Player of the Week three times in her career.

Illinois loses starting defensive tackle for season
3:43 PM 8/13/2008 — RANTOUL, Ill. - Illinois starting defensive tackle Sirod (ser-AHD') Williams will miss the season with a knee injury.
Williams faces surgery after hurting the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee Saturday at Illinois' preseason camp in Rantoul.
Coach Ron Zook says Williams will sit out the year and plans to return next fall as a red-shirt senior.

Members of the 2004-05 and 1988-89 Final Four teams will be well-represented.

Smith dismissed from basketball team
10:40 PM 7/31/2008 — llinois basketball coach Bruce Weber announced Thursday junior guard Jamar Smith has been dismissed from the basketball team. The dismissal stems from Smith's recent run-in with the law which violated the terms of a personal agreement with Weber implemented after a February 2007 alcohol-related car accident.

Within a week's time, Spring will prepare to push his body to its limit on the world's grandest stage in a quest for Olympic glory. Illini paralympians headed to Beijing
10:18 PM 7/31/2008 — After going from fifth place in 2000 to gold in 2004, the U.S. women's Paralympic basketball team will have its chance to repeat with starting point guard and University head coach Patty Cisneros.
The team will travel to Beijing on August 28 for the Paralympics, which start two weeks after the closing ceremonies of the Olympics.

Track star Masheto to represent Botswana at Olympics
