The chance to represent the 103rd congressional district, which includes almost all of Champaign and Urbana, will be contested in the upcoming elections. The incumbent Naomi Jakobsson, D-103, who has represented the district since 2002, is being challenged by local business owner Norman Davis, who won the Republican nomination without opposition. They spoke earlier this week at the College Democrats and College Republicans kickoff meetings.

Library cards from Mahomet and Tolono public libraries will no longer be accepted at the Champaign public library beginning Nov. 1st of this year. To access the library’s materials patrons must now purchase a Champaign card for a $200 annual fee.

  • Theft of $300 and under was reported at the 700 block of South Sixth Street on Saturday.
  • According to the police report, the victim showed his driver’s license to enter into a bar. He realized the next day that he did not have his driver’s license and returned to the business but was told that it was not there.
  • A 20-year old man was arrested at the 200 block of East Chalmers Street on Saturday.
