The Peace Corps released a list of colleges and universities producing the most volunteers in 2010 with the University of Illinois ranked 14th.
According to a press release, the University had 67 undergraduate alumni volunteers.
Ashlee McLaughlin, campus recruiter, said the UI Peace Corps nominates 40-60 people each year.
McLaughlin said the department reaches out to students in the agriculture and education fields.
“Their skills are always in demand around the world,” McLaughlin said.

McLaughlin said the application process takes between 9 and 12 months to complete and encourages people to apply early if they plan on joining after they graduate.
“For some, it’s just the most convenient time in their life, no mortgages or kids,” McLaughlin said.
To enlist in the Peace Corps, applicants fill out an application, then their legal and medical history is reviewed. The applicant’s education, volunteer and life experience is looked at.
McLaughlin said the University saw an increase in applicants once Obama took office.
“I think it’s pretty inspiring when people start applying,” McLaughlin said. “Word gets around and it becomes more common.”
