SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Gov. Pat Quinn is marking Earth Day by ordering state agencies to reduce waste and taking steps to make the Governor's Mansion more eco-friendly.

But Quinn says he opposes raising gasoline taxes to reduce automobile pollution and he isn't taking a position on whether Illinois should adopt tougher pollution standards for cars and coal-burning power plants.

The Chicago Democrat signed an executive order Wednesday that orders government agencies to reduce solid waste by at least 40 percent by the year 2015. They'll also have to cut use of electricity and natural gas 25 percent by 2025.

Quinn announced the governor's mansion is reducing electricity use by installing LED lights. The mansion also will use barrels to collect rainwater for gardening.
