Governor Pat Quinn announced October to be Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
At a rally in Chicago on Oct. 1, Quinn called upon Illinoisans to help end domestic violence.
According to a press release, there are between 115,000 to 125,000 domestic crimes in Illinois every year.
“We need to make sure we are doing everything possible to put an end to domestic violence and to provide services to help victims and their families regain their lives and keep them safe,” Quinn said in the press release.
Victims of domestic violence can seek help by calling the Statewide Domestic Violence Helpline (1-877-863-6338) or visiting a help center.
