In a time when our University is struggling to gain more transparency and reject some of the corruption that has plagued our state, Soso will be a breath of fresh air. He is a representative who seems to only want to make promises he can keep and advocate platforms he is truly behind.

From Different Perspectives

As one of these newly-elected senators, I will be spending the next several months preparing to take the oath of office, joining the ranks of the Student Senate as a representative from the LAS-D delegation. As the elections slowly fade to the back of students’ minds, they might assume that their senator-elects simply stand by the sidelines, counting down the days until their official terms begin... they couldn’t be more wrong! The dust from the campaign trail hadn’t yet settled when I was bombarded with e-mails and texts from senators new and old asking to meet with me about a plethora of campus issues. Indeed, I am certain that these upcoming months will be filled to the brim with correspondence between constituents, senators, administrators and staff, who all have incredibly valuable input.

The Illinois Student Senate has passed a resolution that would call for a committee to find a mascot for the school. The great University of Illinois has never had a mascot, and it most definitely should not get one now.

Hold the door for her. Walk her to the doorstep when you drop her off. When the garage door opens, jump off the couch and carry in the groceries. These are just a few of the actions my dad instilled in me as a child. There were no ifs, ands or buts about it in his presence; I was to be a gentleman.

Apparently, there is an idea being passed around campus that if you are on your way to class and happen to walk out in front of a car, it will always stop for you. In general, this is probably true, but since I’ve recently had this happen so often, I feel I should address the issue.

While most Americans, even those with no interest in sports, can generally tell you when the Super Bowl will be or even a top team in the NBA, most sports freaks would probably be unable to tell you where the US stands in the World Cup.

Letters to the Editor

In response to the March 10 article on women in Engineering titled “A Strong Support System”, I would like to begin by saying that I was one of the female engineers who took the survey asking if I felt that I had been treated differently in the college because of my gender.

The March 9 publication of the salary guide was a great idea. However, I was miffed to see that my salary was listed as more than twice the amount I was actually paid.

In this small community of Champaign-Urbana, there are already six long term care facilities, but very rarely can I find news dealing with aging. There has been too little coverage, and even a negative portrayal in media on aging.

After two and a half years on campus and multiple parking tickets reminding me so, I have reached the point where I can no longer stand the parking available on our campus.

Rising costs at the University of Illinois are making a quality education unattainable for many prospective and current students.
