Rose Bowl Guide

Mom's Day Guide
Published April 10, 2007Mom's Day is an annual Illini tradition, and the Daily Illini's special preview section offered everything a student could need to be ready for the main event. We had a calendar of events and featured a few of the newest Mom's Day offerings on campus and off, but also provided a new twist on a campus staple. Managing editor Beth Gilomen suggests her favorite places to enjoy a drink or two with your mom, while sports editor Dave Just calls for more recognition to the annually crowned "Queen Mom." We profiled a student who recently added motherhood to the demands of finishing college and preparing for law school. We interviewed local mom-and-daughter duo Denise and Casey Zook, who donned their game-day orange for our cover shot. And we asked one alumna to talk about how Champaign is different now that her daughter goes to U of I.
NCAA Tournament Guide #2
Published March 26, 2007The Illini's season may not have ended like they would have liked, but our March Mayhem Guide #2 offered a comprehensive look at Illinois' earlier-than-expected exit and where the Tournament stood after four team punched their tickets to Atlanta and the Final Four. Columnist Lucas Deal gave his take on Florida's chances at being repeat champions and Illinois Athletic Director Ron Guenther's press row outburst. Finally, the Daily Illini featured an article profiling the program's future. To succeed, the Illini need an offensive creator and Weber and the rest of the Illini discussed their hope to once again return to the top of the Big Ten.
NCAA Tournament Guide #1
Published March 14, 2007As Illinois headed to Columbus, Ohio for its first-round NCAA Tournament match-up with Virginia Tech, the Daily Illini prepared a special six-page section for its readers. The DI's basketball staff prepared articles on what Illinois wanted to accomplish in the Tournament, to a scouting report on Virginia Tech, to a feature story profiling Chester Frazier, the Illini's "heart of this team." Not only did the stories focus on Illinois' chances in the Tournament, but our most experienced staffers provided a region-by-region guide to sports fans filling out their brackets. Throw in some photos of the Illini's troubling season and readers had all they needed.
Big Ten Tournament preview
Published March 7, 2007The Daily Illini's Big Ten Tournament preview featured coverage of the Illini's first-round match-up with Penn State and the team's state of mind after its regular season finale loss to Iowa. DI Sports staffers made their picks for who would win the tournament, which player would take Most Valuable Player honors and which Illini player would be most crucial to the Illini's success.
