Opinions Semester in Review

Being assigned to write this series was a humbling and, in many ways, intimidating experience.

Forty years had passed since the implementation of Project 500, so my editors knew they wanted to run at least a couple of stories to commemorate the anniversary.

The buzzword the past few months has been "change," and that's the theme of our Semester in Review edition.

Of course, we're borrowing the word from the campaign of President-elect Barack Obama, but it rings true well beyond America electing its first black president.

Remaining financially stable during the last few years in spite of the declining economy, the University finally is succumbing to the state's budget woes. In October, Chancellor Richard Herman and President B. Joseph White sent out e-mails to the student body, warning that University leaders had been directed to prepare for economic hardships.
