Quad Day

All work and no play means a dull Quad Day

If you're a freshman or new student, there's a good chance Quad Day has been hammered into your head several times already. The popular event is a gathering place for all of the registered student organizations to set up booths and recruit as many members as possible through coercion and over-enthusiastic yelling and screaming.

Long-term planning goes unnoticed

By sundown it will be nearly impossible to tell what happened on the Quad today.

Shortly after 3 p.m. the University grounds crew will descend on the long stretch of lawn to remove any trace of discarded fliers or leftover freebies that might hint at the day's frenzied events.

Column: How to stir up Quad Day-Add a competitive aspect

Another year, another Quad Day. Maybe I'm just jaded, but the magic I felt when I was a freshman just isn't there anymore. Yeah, sure, hundreds of Registered Student Organizations congregating in one place for convenient perusal by the faceless droves is a once-a-year opportunity for everyone to expand their horizons and really "experience" college.

Column: Experience plus pay, go get a job already!

Quad Day is a great time to go out and experience all that the University has to offer, but most of the time, it doesn't pay the bills. That is exactly why you should get a job instead.

A campus job offers all of the real time experience that accompanies post-college work, as well as a flexible schedule.

Column: Game time: Making Quad Day fun again

Quad Day can become repetitive.

As a freshman, it's exciting to see all the clubs and organizations the campus has to offer. When else can you get a free plant from the Horticulture Club, watch a world class karate demonstration and decide to sign up for Greek recruitment all in one day?

So freshmen (or anyone new to campus) - go to Quad Day.
