Spring Career Guide 2010

With the end of the year quickly approaching, many UI seniors continue to face difficulties securing employment after graduation. In the current economic crisis, and with so many college graduates competing for jobs, many will take up internships until they find full-time work. Katie Flint, assistant director at the Career Center, says students need to keep their options open and start preparing early.

Attend Quad Day – check out the RSOs on campus. This is the chance for you to find a club/organization that may potentially suit your career goals and more importantly, become an active member over your next four years at the University.

Throughout life, children are asked the question, ‘what do you want to be when you grow up?’ The answer to this question usually changes daily, maybe even hourly. However, at the age of 18, individuals are forced to make a decision. On their college applications, students have the option to choose a major, though the percentage of students that actually stick with these majors is quite slim.

With social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, it has become easier to know so much about someone you’ve never even met. Sure, you can keep tabs on an old friend from high school or see pictures of that guy your roommate has a crush on, but it is important to remember that people are most likely “Facebook stalking” you as well- and employers aren’t necessarily above that expectation.
