Summer Preview

I'm gonna miss summer in Chicago. Chicago is one of the greatest places to spend your summer. If you're a suburbanite heading home for break and dreading the idea of moving back in with mom and dad, just think of all the amazing opportunities you'll have to hop on the train and be downtown quicker than it'd take to walk from Green Street to the Six Pack.

You know how you think you had "the best summer ever" every single year? I have been to a lot of places and done a lot of things during the dog days, but staying in Champaign ranks high on my list of the best summers. The top reasons you should stay in Champaign over the summer: No parents The one sentence I know I will not hear this summer is "Danielllllle! Wake uuuuuppp!" Don't you hate when your mom yells that on her way out to work when you would rather just lay in bed? So stay here and don't deal with it.

Each July Fourth, Campustown becomes overrun not with students, but with community members. The Champaign County Freedom Celebration will once again take place in the area between the Six Pack and Assembly Hall this summer. Though some students might have to deal with road closures - Stadium Drive between First and Oak streets - everyone will be able to savor the fireworks at night.

Alan Ball played football at Illinois for four years, but this summer - on Friday, actually - he'll be beginning what he hopes to be a long NFL career after being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Q: Have you talked to anybody down in Dallas; are you excited to go there? A: Yeah, I'm real excited.
