Drew Heredia's hat trick contributed to a season-high 11 goals as the Illinois hockey club thrashed Illinois State in an 11-1 blowout Friday night. Tim Gilbert and Alex Park pitched in with two goals each while freshman goaltender Nick Pecoraro denied the visitors any goals in the third period.

The Redbirds would find the net late in the first period, as Aaron Gold found the net to make the score 3-1. However, winger Daniel Cohen would score only 43 seconds later and the Illini continued an offensive onslaught for the remainder of the game. Seven different Illini found the net in the victory.

Illinois will look to put the finishing touches on an undefeated semester on Saturday in the final game before semester break.
