Academic reasons have forced right-handed pitcher Tanner Roark off the Illinois baseball squad, coach Dan Hartleb said Monday.

"We have a lot of talented players in the program," said Hartleb, who doesn't yet know how he will adjust his rotation. "One player doesn't make a team, so we'll move on."

Roark appeared in 13 games last season and compiled a 4.55 ERA in 83 innings of work. The right-hander started more games than any Illinois pitcher and was the league's co-leader in conference wins with six.

Roark was a second-team All-Big Ten selection in 2007.
