Purdue F Hummel has knee surgery

INDIANAPOLIS — Purdue forward Robbie Hummel had reconstructive surgery on the ACL in his right knee on Monday.

Purdue coach Matt Painter said that the surgery would take place in Indianapolis and that the standard recovery time is four to six months.

A school spokesman confirmed that the surgery was completed.

Hummel was injured while driving to the basket on Feb. 24 against Minnesota. He ranks second on the team with 15.7 points and 6.9 rebounds a game.

Painter doesn’t expect Hummel to accompany the sixth-ranked Boilermakers when they play in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals on Friday against Northwestern or Indiana.

Penn St. G Battle says he’s fine, ready for Big Ten

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Penn State guard Talor Battle says he’s fine after an illness forced him to miss the last few minutes of the Nittany Lions’ regular-season finale against Purdue.

The standout junior practiced Monday. He says he’s playing when 11th-seed Penn State meets 6th-seed Minnesota in the first round Thursday night of the Big Ten tournament in Indianapolis.

Coach Ed DeChellis said Battle left Saturday’s 64-60 loss to Purdue with about six minutes to go. The team rallied without their point guard, getting within a point with 18 seconds left before the Boilermakers held on.

Battle leads Penn State on the year in scoring, rebounding and assists.

Let's all hope that Garden can wait till next year

Not to be selfish since I live in NYC and would love to get a chance to see the Illini live, but I truly hope they can string a couple of wins together this weekend and get into the Big Dance thus avoiding the NIT and their chance to play at the Garden in a couple of weeks.

Now that they are in the Coaches vs. Cancer classic next year, I am excited that I will get to see them play. I just hope it can wait till next year.
