Tickets may sell out for Illini volleyball vs. Penn State

Tickets are selling fast for the No. 5 Illinois vs. No. 2 Penn State volleyball game Friday night.

Mike Koon, assistant sports information director, said that there are less than 500 tickets left, and he anticipates that tickets will sell out.

Huff Hall has a capacity of 4300 people, and the athletic office is only selling 1500 to account for students, Go Illini cardholders and Fighting Illini Kids club members, he said.

Koon said he anticpates between 1500 and 2000 students will attend Friday’s game.

“There’s an unbelievable student atmosphere (at Huff),” he said. “We didn’t want to sell every ticket.”

Koon said that students can use their iCards and Go Illini card holders can use their cards for admission.

“If Huff starts to get full though, then only ticket holders will be able to get in,” he said. “I think it’ll sell out because as the week goes on people may realize to guarantee a seat they have to buy a ticket.”

It is the first time general admission volleyball tickets have been sold online, and more than 1,000 tickets have been sold, Koon said. Sept. 17 was the deadline to purchase tickets online. Tickets can be bought at Assembly Hall.

“We’re very excited the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics has created an online ticket sales opportunity for the Penn State match,” Kevin Hambly, Illinois volleyball head coach, said in a press release.
