Crime alert issued for aggravated robbery

University Police issued a crime alert on Sunday regarding a case of aggravated robbery that occurred near First Street and Kirby Avenue at 4 a.m. the same day.

According to the report, Champaign Police responded to a victim who was approached by two individuals as she was walking northbound on First Street. The first individual demanded the victim hand over her possessions, and punched her in the face when she said she only had her school I.D. after throwing her cell phone into a nearby grassy area. The second individual did not say anything to the victim during the attack, and both offenders fled the scene afterward.

The victim described the first individual as a 20 to 22-year-old black male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing approximately 160 pounds. The second offender was described as a 20 to 22-year-old black male, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds. Both offenders were wearing dark, hooded athletic jackets pulled up over their heads.

The offenders have not yet been located and anyone with information regarding the incident should contact Champaign Police, University Police or Crimestoppers.
